Stress and Foaling Mares: New Article

Foaling season has begun, and KER has an article about the importance of keeping stressors down for mares near foaling. The article, called "Stressors and Foaling Mares: What Do We Know?" is on the website of Kentucky Equine Research.

During "foal expulsion," when the foal is actually being born, the mare is under a huge amount of stress. Cortisol levels are three times as high during foaling as during other "stressful challenges" including acute abdominal disease or traumatic conditions.
